CITIES OF KLUCZBORK
The twinning scheme,
established in 1989 on the initiative of the European Parliament, is governed by
the principles of subsidiarity, transparency and partnership. It is aimed at
fostering new and existing links and networks between local authorities in
Europe in view of the important contribution that cooperation and exchanges
between local communities make to European integration. The twinning scheme aims
at strengthening the dialogue between the citizens of European Union with a view
to encouraging the emergence of an active and participatory European citizenship.
* Bad Dürkheim (GERMANY)
The twinning agreement between Kluczbork and Bad Dürkheim was signed in October
2000.
Bad Dürkheim is located in the mildest climatic zone north of the Alps. Situated
near by Heidelberg, this historic health resort, which can trace its history
back well over a thousand years, nestles in the area where the eastern hill run
into Palatinate Forest, one of the largest nature parks in Germany. Today the
spa town is inhibited by 21 000 citizens. It is one of Germany's largest
wine-growing districts.
In 2003 Bad Dürkheim celebrated 1225 jubilee of its existence.

* Brzezany (UKRAINE)
The twinning agreement between Kluczbork and Ukrainian city Brzezany was signed
in June 2001.
Brzezany (Berezhany) is small town in Western Ukraine with glorious history.
The first recorded written evidence of Brzezany is from around 1375. Its
territory was part of the Kiervan Rus, Kingdom of Galicia and later of the Rus
Kingdom compromising of Galicia and Wolynia. It was part of Polish Kingdom
(1887-1772); Austria (1772-1867 as part of crown province of Galicia);
Austro-Hungarian Empire (1867-1918); Poland (1918-1939); Soviet Union (USSR)
(1939-1941); Fascist Germany (1941-1944); USSR (1944-1991). Today (from 1991),
after the collapse of USSR, it belongs to independent Ukraine. The town is
situated on the banks of the Zlota Lipa (Golden lime tree) River and surrounded
by hills from all its sides. Inhabited by 20.000 citizens is situated 52 km from
Tarnopol.
